FAQ

Where does the population data come from?

Population estimates come from NASA SEDAC's Gridded Population of the World (GPWv4) dataset, which combines census data with satellite imagery at roughly 1 km resolution worldwide.

How accurate is the population estimate?

It's an estimate, not an exact count — accuracy depends on the underlying data's ~1 km grid resolution and is generally better in well-surveyed regions. Very small areas may return low sample counts.
